Non-Toxic Bath Bombs

Bath bombs are all the rage lately. I see them being sold in stores everywhere…Target, Sephora, and Bed Bath & Beyond to name a few. They make great gifts and I get the appeal of them as they are quite cute. Toss a cupcake into a bathtub and see it melt into hot water and make the water colorful? They are also fun to use! Unfortunately, most of the store bought ones are filled with less than ideal ingredients and shouldn’t be allowed in your tub.

What is sad about them is they are marketed to young girls and these girls don’t know what is safe or what isn’t! To take it one step further, let’s talk about how we are soaking our naked bodies in these bath bombs. The ingredients can easily get up in to your lady business. Many women are having bad reactions to them, including UTI’s and YI’s, due the artificial ingredients in them. No thanks!

Thankfully, bath bombs can be made safe, just follow these rules for worry-free enjoyment:

AVOID: Artificial fragrance, ALL artificial coloring (even if it’s food grade), glitter…(again, let’s consider the areas that are exposed here…). Anytime you see “Fragrance” listed as an ingredient, don’t buy it. All of these ingredients are linked to hormonal issues, adhd, rashes and migraines.

Brands to Avoid: Lush Cosmetics, Fizz & Bubble, Da Bomb, Me Bath, Ulta Beauty, Mr. Bubble, Crayola, Soap & Glory, Hempz, Raw Sugar, Village Naturals & many more.

LOOK FOR: Bath bombs made with only a few ingredients including Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, maltodextrin, and essential oils.

As I did research for this post, I saw how clever brands market their labels. I saw over and over terms like: all natural, cruelty free, vegan, gluten free, biodegradable, local, artisanal. While some of these are great ideas to support, the truth is none of those mean the product is SAFE! Marketing is tricky, the best thing you can do is to read ingredients!

Do you use bath bombs? Share below if you do and which brand you like!
