Things you may not know about vegetable oils:

1️⃣ Vegetable oil (and not saturated fats) have been shown to cause heart disease

2️⃣ The majority, over 90%+, of vegetable oils (canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, grapeseed oil, or rice bran oil) are GMO. GMO foods can contain glyphosate. Glyphosate is an endocrine disruptor and a probably carcinogen, a cancer causing chemical

3️⃣ Vegetable oils are highly processed and oxidize. Consuming oxidized oils has been studied to show that it causes damage to brain cells, lead to inflammation, and increase the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease

4️⃣ Canola oil is high in Omega 6. When our body intakes too many Omega 6 and not enough Omega 3’s, it can promote many diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and inflammatory and autoimmune diseases

5️⃣ Anytime you eat out you can assume they are using vegetable oils because they are cheap and neutral flavored.
 As you can see, they are very inflammatory. Olive oil, avocado oil and coconut oil are all healthier and safer options, providing health benefits too. We use all three in our home when cooking and baking as well as ghee, tallow and grass fed butter.

Let me introduce you to my new favorite bra. It’s supportive, comfortable and good for my health. How can a bra be good for my health? First, no underwire. Second, all materials in the bra have been tested for harmful substances and are proven to be harmless for human health. They screen for substances like pesticides, chlorine bleach, and formaldehyde.

You might not think about the chemicals in your bra and underwear too much, I didn’t either until more recently. But, it’s something to consider since the materials we wear are touching our body most, if not all, of the day. And what touches our skin can get absorbed into our bloodstream.

News recently broke about popular sports bras containing 22x the recommended amount of BPA. BPA is really bad for our health (see my IG post). Just as food is sprayed with pesticides, so are the materials we wear, cotton is a crop after all. And like most industries in the US, we are sorely lacking in regulation products for safety.

After hearing on a podcast how thoughtfully made @vibrantbodycompany bras are, I did a free virtual bra fitting with bra master Heidi Lehmann (you can do one too!). I’ve been wearing my bra all the time since and just bought a second one. The fit is amazing, no more gap up top. I love their tank tops too, so so soft.

(Not) so fun fact: 2x-5x more chemicals are found inside our home than outdoors. This is alarming considering in general we spend 90% of our time indoors.

As we start to spend even more time inside with the days shortening and the weather chilling, now is the perfect time to improve your indoor air quality.

One of the best ways to improve indoor air quality is to stop using artificial fragrances in your home. Artificial fragrance is classified as a carcinogen, a cancer causing chemical. Lowering our exposure to them is an important step in lessening our body’s toxic load.

Luckily there is no need to compromise on your favorite fall scents and there are many great safer options! All of the swaps here use essential oils instead of artificial fragrance.

Candles - Swap pretty much any candle you find for Natural Sloth, Fontana Candle Co, Adobe

If that doesn’t mean much, for comparison the EU bans 1,400 ingredients known to be harmful for our health (or potentially harmful) and Canada bans over 600.

What’s worse is the last major law passed banning harmful ingredients was before World War II. Thousands of ingredients have been added to products since then. While there have been small laws passed, they have barely made a dent.

That’s why I’m out here doing the work I am. To help you realize that a product on a shelf doesn’t mean a product is safe for us. To empower you to make better health protective choices for yourself and your family!

💄Many halloween makeup kits are filled with spooky ingredients. Look for makeup made without Talc, Lead, Parabens, Fragrance, Toluene, PEGs, Mineral Oils, Artificial Colors. I found some non-toxic makeup kits at Party City but they don’t have any ingredients listed so its hard to know if they really are. Some tried and true great non-toxic options specifically made for kids are Klee Naturals and Prim Pure. For all ages I love Beautycounter and 100% Pure.

🍬Besides being sugar bombs, most candy also contains soy, artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, and fillers. Artificial colors especially are linked to so many health issues and I don’t know about your kids but mine go BONKERS if they have artificial colors. Stores like Whole Foods are having great sales on Unreal and Yum Earth right now. I love buying Yum Earth because so many kids have food allergies and their candy is allergen safe and it made with simple ingredients.

Current hobbies include smiling at everyone, climbing on top of furniture, reading, dressing up in big brothers costumes, and dumping things out.

Admittedly my personal favorite (last pic) is the 15 times a day he stops what he is doing to run over and snuggle into my chest while sucking his thumb for a few seconds then jumps off and back into his activity 🥰.
